The World Wide Internet Championship

The APW World Wide Internet Championship is one of the most recognized and respected championships in Professional Wrestling today. In 1999, All Pro Wrestling Founder Roland Alexander wanted to take the gaining popularity of the internet and apply it to All Pro Wrestling, which has always been at the forefront of whatever new media has been created.
In 1999, a Tournament was held to determine the very first World Wide Internet Champion, a tournament which came down to two APW Boot Camp Graduates, Mike Modest and Tony Jones, whom you will remember from the famous documentary Beyond the Mat. Mike Modest would go down in the record books by defeating Tony Jones and being crowned the very first Internet Champion.
Over the years, the World Wide Internet Championship itself has been the reason of many of APW’s greatest rivalries, and the prestige associated with the unique purple belt is ever increasing, with wrestlers all over the globe constantly chomping at the bit to have an opportunity to add that championship to their resume.
It has been well documented that former champion “Wrestling Personified” Rik Luxury spent the better part of 2 years hunting for the purple glory. Ever since stepping foot into the All Pro Wrestling ring, Luxury has spent every waking moment preparing for the chance to win the title, something he was able to achieve on May 6, 2011 when he beat Boot Camp Graduate “Out of Control” Matt Carlos in a Ladder Match to realize his dream.
Students attending the Boot Camp often dream of being the Internet Champion. Ultimately, every professional wrestler in All Pro Wrestling’s goal is to one day become the Universal Heavyweight Champion, but there is no greater stepping stone than the Internet Championship. There is no better way to prove yourself as being one of the best than to beat the current champion and take home the championship, with the rights, privileges, and respect that comes with it.
Ernesto DeLaTorre, current Boot Camp Student, said “Of course I want to be the Internet Champion. Just look at the list, Christopher Daniels, Psicosis, Super Dragon, Daniel Bryan, the list goes on and on. Even my trainers Matt Carlos and Killer Jay Mathias have either held the title, or fought in insane matches just to have the chance to hold it.”
Now with Colt Cabana as the current reigning and defending World Wide Internet Champion, who knows who will come out of the woodwork to secure their place in history. Rest assured, with Cabana’s goal of wrestling for All Pro Wrestling taken care of, and adding his win of the Internet Championship on top of that, it won’t be long before you see the host of the Art of Wrestling Podcast appear at APW once again. After all, what good is a champion, if he doesn’t defend what he fought to attain.
